Tim Mara was both the author and subject of various publications and articles and saw writing as a necessary extension of both his artistic and academic activities.

There are many articles containing information about his work but unfortunately these have not yet been recorded or collated and a definitive list of these is not possible to reproduce. Below is a list of all the major publications that the Artist has been involved in;

Books By Tim Mara

1.Imagery and Menagerie - 1974

Artist book co-authored with Chris Plowman published in a limited edition of 25 copies at the Royal College of Art, London. Hand bound and containing 122 pages plus end papers. Prints by Tim Mara are a uniform 152cm x 152cm.

2.The Thames and Hudson Manual of Screenprinting - 1979

Published by Thames and Hudson, London (ISBN 0 500 670196)

Subjects include a short history of the medium, print studios (layout, set up, organization, and maintenance). The preparation and usage of materials and equipment, techniques and processes, health and safety in the workshop and examples by the Artist and others showing use and application of the medium.

3. Who Are Those Guys - (date unknown)

Artists book. Publishing information and edition number unknown

Little is known of the background of this handmade image based silkscreen book that contains around 50 individual images and no text. The images in the book are sequential suggesting to notions of animation and flick books.

4. Print Voice - 1984

Published by the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada (ISBN 0 888 649622)

Contribution to the publication via an essay entitled ‘New Screen printing In England’

5.Private Pursuits and Public Problems (a Poster Exhibition) - 1993

Published by The Royal College of Art, London (ISBN 1 874 175357)

Co-organised in collaboration with Prof Tony Cobb and Prof John Hedgecoe. Publication accompanying exhibition of the Phillip Granville Poster collection which was held at The Henry Moore Gallery, Royal College of Art, London in 1993.

6.The Spirit of the Staircase - 100 Years of Print Publishing at The Royal College of Art 1896 - 1996

Published by The Royal College of Art, London, 1996 (ISBN 1 874 175462]

Exhibition catalogue co-produced and curated in collaboration with Silvie Turner. Produced to accompany the exhibition of the same title at The Victoria & Albert Museum from 7th November 1996 - 30th March 1997.

Books About Tim Mara

1.Tim Mara - Prints 1971 - 1987 1988

Published by Drumcoon Arts Centre. Written by Keith Walker from a recorded interview between the Artist, Bryan Edmondson, Sue O’Brien and himself.

Publication to accompany the exhibition of the same title at The Drumcoon Arts Centre, Wigan from 11th Jan - 13th Feb 1988, additional teaching notes expanding upon themes within the Artist’s work were also produced.

2. Tim Mara - 1996

Published by Flowers East Galleries, London with essay by Christopher Frayling (ISBN 1 873 362528)

Published to accompany the exhibition at Flowers East from 22nd March - 21st April 1996.

3.Tim Mara ‘The Complete Prints’ - 1998
