Historical studies and studies first hand from original examples of writing have since been a hall-mark of the British tradition of calligraphy. Consulting the collection at the Crafts Study Centre or discovering resources in your own region could be an important help to your studies. To some extent you will be as good as the influences you allow to work upon you. There is no substitute for looking at real work first hand, there you will see the movement of the hand across the page, the effect of the marks on the material, the colours and integration of all aspects of a piece. Looking at good work is the best learning aid.
