No 10: Vase, 1937 (P.74.154)
This bulbous, ovoid vase was made in 1937 and given to the Crafts Study Centre on the potter's death. It has an incredible depth of colour; the body is of buff thrown stoneware and has pronounced throwing rings. The variegated green-grey, box ash glaze breaks into fine streaks in a fur-like appearance. There is a contrasting, blown-on brown splash running from the shoulders which give life to the composition.
