| Description | Carl Hoff was a German painter who specialized in genre scenes such as this. Within a domestic interior a seated girl scolds a young boy who stands before her with his head lowered. She holds an open book in her left hand and a ceramic pot rests on her lap. A small wooden boat lies discarded by the boy on the stone floor in the right foreground. The artist is clearly inviting the viewer to unravel the narrative of the scene. | |
