| Description | Karel Dujardin visited Italy between 1640 and 1650, and his experience of the scenery of the Roman Campagna formed the basis of his Italianate landscapes. His picturesque scenes of peasants and gypsies, such as this work apparently painted by a follower, enjoyed great popularity with collectors in the nineteenth century. | |

| Notes | The dating of this pictures is based on the National Gallery's painting by Dujardin, A Woman and a Boy with Animals at a Ford, painted in 1657. The treatment of the atmosphere and the figures is similar, but the figures in the Beecroft picture are poor and the attribution to a follower of Dujardin seems reasonable. | |
