| Description | Constant Troyon's background was actually in the decorative arts. He was born into a family of porcelain painters, and remained attached to the porcelain manufactory at Sèvres well after he had begun to exhibit paintings in the Paris Salon. He was acquainted with members of the Barbizon School such as Rousseau and Dupré and, like them, painted in the forest of Fontainebleau. His landscapes were thought to express his own placid temperament. | |
