| Description | A faithful copy of Van Dyck's Charles I and Family in the Royal Collection (1632). Leemput was a Flemish painter who came to England with Van Dyck to assist in his studio. His skill in copying his master's work was notorious. This work was painted for the Earl of Pembroke on the request of Charles I. | |

| Notes | An old label attached to the picture identifies the smaller child as the future James II. A copy of the picture in the Royal Collection, dated 1632. Oliver Millar, in a letter to the Gallery archive, suggests attribution of this picture to Leemput, who was commissioned to make such a full-size copy after Van Dyck's original. Another version of Van Dyck's 'Great Piece' is at Bickley Hall, State Bedroom. | |
