| Description | The date of this picture is not known but was probably painted around 1899 when Renoir, who had arthritis, decided to settle in the South of France, near Cannes (he later moved to Cagnes near Nice). During the 1880s, Renoir's Impressionist style gives way to more classical subjects of nudes and bathers. He adopted a long, fluid brushstroke as can be seen in this rapidly painted oil sketch. | |
