Description With its traditional Flemish brown-green-blue tonal scheme, and a composition articulated by a diagonal line, marked by the river on the right and the cluster of trees on the left, this landscape belongs to the type which was popularised by Jacques d'Arthois in the middle decades of the seventeenth century. The elegant huntsmen in conversation in the foreground differ from the usual figures in d'Arthois's works. The shepherd and the woman carrying a basket on her head on the other side of the river are closer to the popular figures which were often added to his landscapes by other painters, such as David Teniers.
