| Description | It is not certain which 'Valentin' painted this, as several artists with this name were active in France in the nineteenth century. The painting itself is a pleasing interior scene, in which the artist played with the light. A soft warm light falls on the sitter in the centre of the composition whilst the rest of the room remains partly in the dark. The woman's simple attire suggest that she may be a servant girl. | |
