| Description | In this bust-length portrait, Amalia van Solms (1602-1675), wife of Prince Frederik Hendrick of Orange, is attired in a black dress with pearl jewellery. Autograph versions by Mierveld are at the Rijksmuseum and in the Dutch Royal Collection, where they are paired with portraits of Prince Frederick Hendrick. This version was probably made by an artist in Mierveld's busy workshop, which included his sons Jan and Pieter. Copies of portraits could be commissioned from the workshop, although some popular sitters' portraits were kept in stock. William Jacobszoon Delff's engraving after Mierveld's portrait is dated 1629. | |
