| Description | This is a replica of Sir Peter Lely's portrait of Josceline Percy (1644-1670) which is at Petworth House, Sussex, the seat of the earls of Northumberland. The young Josceline Percy is depicted together with his adoring dog. Josceline was the only son of Algernon Percy, tenth earl of Northumberland, who founded the family's important picture collection and presumably commissioned the portrait of his young son from Lely, as well as further portraits several years later.Josceline became the eleventh earl on his father's death in 1668, but he died just two years later at only twenty-six years of age. | |
