| Description | This is a characteristic subject of Blommers, member of the second generation of The Hague School. A mother, and two daughters sit in a courtyard, their clogs neatly placed against a brick façade. A man's jacket hanging on the fence suggests the father is close. The mother is examining fabric whilst the girl is working on her own piece. The baby sits in a walker on wheels, looking up to mother and sister. Subject and mood recall Van Hooch, whilst light and subtle atmosphere suggests the Barbizon school. The tight brushwork defines this as an early work | |
