| Description | In this large painting an angel can be seen leading Mary, Joseph and the baby Jesus to safety in Egypt, away from the murderous King Herod. Gregorio de Ferrari was a Baroque painter, and this painting typifies his usual style. Rich colours and strong chiaroscuro (extreme contrasts of light and dark) increase the dramatic and emotional impact of the work. | |
