Description There is some confusion over the date of birth of Gerardus Hendriks. He is known to have been a painter of landscapes and waterways, active in the first half of the nineteenth century. He was born in Amsterdam and established himself in Rotterdam by 1843. His paintings often feature a low horizon and cloud-streaked sky over calm, glassy waters and river boats, recalling the seventeenth-century Dutch tradition of marine painting.
