| Description |
A young artist, seated at a table, is making a chalk drawing from two plaster casts placed in front of him: a reclining putto (possibly a cast after a putto by the seventeenth-century sculptor Duquesnoy) and a classical female head. The bright light entering the interior through the window on the left accentuates the volume of the objects. The composition recalls other work by Vaillant, such as Boy Seated in a Studio, which shows the artist with a cast of the Christ Child after Michelangelo in front of him (1658, Louvre, Paris). |
