| Description | This autumnal river landscape reveals the influence of the Barbizon painters and their interest in the direct observation of nature. The bare trees silhouetted against the sky on the right act as repoussoirs creating spatial depth. Sky and trees are reflected on the shimmering water-surface of the slow-flowing river. | |
