| Description |
Lady Marjorie Gordon is shown from the rear, in near-profile, a portrait pose made fashionable by Whistler. The fashionable blue dress and the tiara she wears suggest the sitter is dressed for a grand occasion. The impressionistic style of the portrait, with its scumbled brushstrokes emphasising the different surfaces depicted, as well as the sitter's hairstyle indicate that the picture was painted around the turn of the last century. |
