Bach. He led the Handel Commemoration Concerts in Westminster Abbey in 1784 and 1787. The painting is attributed to the German painter Anton Hickel. Born in Vienna, Hickel gained his reputation as a portrait painter. He became court painter to Josef II, Holy Roman Emperor and then travelled to Paris where his patron was Marie Antoinette.
