| Description | Edward Martin (1810-1814) qualified in medicine and became a Licentiate of the Society of Apothecaries in 1832 and a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1834. He moved to Sheffield where he became surgeon at the Public Dispensary for thirteen years. He also taught at the Sheffield Medical Institution. He died at Rempstone Hall, near Loughborough. This miniature was painted for Dr Hill, a pupil of Martin's. Benedetto Pistrucci (1784-1855) was an Italian engraver and employed by the mint in Britain. He produced the famous design of 'St George Slaying a Dragon', used on coins since 1817. | |
