This is a three-quarter length portrait of the German-born composer who transformed English music during the early eighteenth century. Handel is depicted wearing a powdered wig a brocade jacket and waistcoat over a high collared white shirt. The sitter is turned slightly to the right, but his gaze meets the viewer's. The copper pipes of a pipe organ are visible to the left. |
