Description As befits an artist who specialised in architecture François Bossuet provides a panorama of this ancient city in southern Spain. The cathedral of Jaén, a fine example of Andalucian Baroque with its dome and twin towers, dominates the town while the street before us is densely packed with arcades, open-fronted shops, a church, houses and ornately decorated fountains. The figures provide local colour and life while also giving a scale to the buildings and filling in the large area of roadway. Bossuet studied at the Academy in Antwerp. In 1832 he became a professor at Brussels Academy. He is best known for his architectural subjects.
