Description The painting by the French Realist painter Antoine Vollon depicts a still life of a dish of peaches, a silver coffee pot, a glass decanter and some foliage on a table top. Vollon was well known for his still lifes, landscapes and figures. In 1859, he moved to Paris to study and was encouraged by Théodule Ribot, to paint genre and still life scenes. Vollon was influenced by Ribot and the Dutch seventeenth century still life paintings. His work was technically highly sophisticated and he depicted the surfaces, light and texture of his objects with great detail.
