| Description | Werff achieved great success in his lifetime with portraits, mythological and religious scenes, although his fame declined after his death, and he is now viewed as a conventional, and sentimental painter. This portrait of a composed young man is in Werff's manner, although it lacks the accessories the painter usually added to his portraits such as sculptures, pictures and letters. | |
