Description A funeral procession is squeezed out of a narrow alley, advancing towards the spectator, and led by two turbaned Arabs. Marked contrasts between warm and cold colours, light and dark create vibrancy. Bands of red and white masonry on the side of one building, an awning suspended above the street in the middle, and a kiosk seen in sharp perspective high up on the right, frame the procession from above. This painting is the result of Pasini's travels in the East between 1855 and 1856 as part of a diplomatic mission, and is a fine example of Western orientalism
