| Description | Like his more famous younger brother Jan, Andries Both was a pupil of Bloemart in Utrecht. He went to Italy in 1632 and stayed in Rome until 1641 where he became associated with the Bamboccianti circle of Dutch artists living in Rome. On his way back to Holland with Jan in 1642, he accidentally drowned in a canal in Venice. The brothers' Italianate landscapes were very much imitated in Holland. | |
