| Description | Previously attributed to Willem van Aelst, the painting was reattributed to the circle of Van Aelst by Christie's in 1991. Aelst worked in Paris and Florence before settling in Amsterdam. He was one of the first still-life painters to depict hunt trophies. Few Dutch artists painted game pieces, because the market for such works remained small and hunting and shooting were not widely practised in the northern Netherlands. | |
