| Description | Andreotti was born in Florence and studied there at the Academy, eventually becoming Professor of Art. He was noted for his paintings of figures in seventeenth and eighteenth century costume and even received a commission from the King. Andreotti also painted frescoes in and around Florence. He exhibited eight paintings in Britain at the Royal Academy between 1870 and 1883. He often employed the same three models as seen in the Burnley painting, usually depicting the same scene of a courting couple with the woman's father present. The female model is depicted wearing the same dress in The Music Lesson (Sotheby's, London, 15 June 1994) which is probably contemporary to the Burnley painting, but unfortunately it is also undated. | |
