| Description |
Nothing is known about the artist Dallmun, who made this painting in Paris in 1896. He or she was certainly aware of the work of French artist Henri Fantin-Latour who gained great success with informal flower studies painted loosely with an emphasis on medium. Many flower painters followed this format, including quite a few women painters. These artists often worked from still lives set up in the studio, an element suggested here by the inclusion of flowers and berries from several seasons. Dallmun has retained a sense of the outdoors in the inclusion of the listening thrush. |
