| Description | The Holy Family rest on their flight to Egypt in a verdant landscape. They sit on a bank to the right of the composition, and a kneeling angel proffers a basket of fruit. The Virgin supports the naked child in her lap, and holds up an apple, which signifies her as the new Eve. Joseph is at the extreme right of the composition, with a book spread open in his right hand, and his staff in his left. The landscape setting describes a river to the left of the composition and dense woodland to the right. | |

| Notes | The composition of the present work appears to be related to the many versions of this subject by Francesco Albani (1578-1660); the painting may be loosely derived from an engraving after Albani, since its composition is reversed. | |
