Description A bust-length portrait of James Bridges (1697-1741) in an oval frame. He is depicted in early middle-age, he wears a long and luxuriant chestnut wig and is draped in brown silk with a lavish white cravat. He regards the viewer. The work forms a pair with Portrait of Mary Bridges (1945.24).

Notes The late husband of Mrs Williams of Torquay was a descendent of the Bridges family, of the Manor House, Keynsham. He had inherited the four Bridges family portraits which Mrs Williams donated to Victoria Art Gallery. The donation included three further paintings. Other objects were given to Bristol Art Gallery.
