Inscription Verso - "WR Lethaby, 9 Hart St, Bloomsbury", "Brass rail", "Plain white or Dutch tiles", "Brass shelf iron brackets in casting", "A as grate 3.0 x 3.3", "B complete 4.10 high", "C the whole may be in iron without the brass but the brass and iron would make a nice complete thing without any painting at all. The whole a metal stove front" and "7" circled. All in pencil.

Notes Some of the executed fireplaces made from these designs (some by Farmer & Brindley, Coalbrookedale Iron Company) were exhibited at the first two Arts and Crafts Exhibition Society shows. Some of these designs may have been for Stanmore Hall; Lethaby designing five fireplaces for a contract given to him by William Morris.
Object Notes Fireplace design with notes, dimensions in Lethaby's hand. Shows front elevation of blue surround with yellow border and white tiles above the mantel. Grate, candlesticks, decorative tiles. Measurements labelled A and B, left of fireplace design.
