| Notes | This watercolour (unsigned), which was hung in the Principal's office at the Central School, may have been made by Lethaby on one of his later travels abroad. He first visited Northern France in 1880 and 1882 (after winning the Soane travelling scholarship) and would have studied the local architecture then. However, it does seem more likely that this was made on one of his later journeys. Rubens states that Lethaby and his wife travelled to the continent at least once a year between 1900 and 1914. | |
| Object Notes | Main image of a circular tower dominating the townscape of this French town situated in the Loire valley, rendered in watercolour. There are also a small number of details (with notes) in pencil. These details are of the balcony 'bays' and railing etc. | |
