Biographical Notes Charles Lucien Léandre was a caricaturist and painter born in Champsecret in France. He began his artistic career as a painter, exhibiting portraits and genre pictures at the Salon in Paris in 1887. However, he achieved greater fame with his comic drawings and caricatures. He sketched for various saticial magazines, such as 'L'Illustration', 'L'Assiette au Beurre', 'Le Rire', 'Le Gaulois' and 'Le Figaro'. He also designed posters for the theatre and cabaret, including the infamous 'Chat Noir' in Paris.
