| Description | Carbon copy on medium-heavy paper of a typewritten letter, addressed to 'Dear Peter Cox'; Lucie Rie's notes on herself and Coper for the Dartington catalogue: 'I was born in Vienna on 16.3.1902. I was trained at the Arts and Crafts School there and my teacher was Michael Powolny. After that I had my own workshop until I came to London in 1938 and I started my own workshop here in Albion Mews in 1939. Hans Coper was born in Germany on 8.4.1920. He came to England 1939. He started pottery with me four years ago without any previous training - but he scuplted and painted. His pots are all stoneware.'; finished with apology that photographs were not clear enough | |
