| History | Title page design reproduced by lithography. Written between 5 and 11 December 1907, for Professor Beresford Pite, F.R.I.B.A. After a short preliminary correspondence, starting with an enquiry from Pite on 29 November, Johnston 'made first sketch' on 5 December, showing this to Pite on the ninth. On 11 December, the sketch having presumably been approved, Johnston spent four hours writing out a final version of the title page, which was reproduced in black from this 'copy'. See Elkin Mathews List 54, no. 36, for a sketch ('4 lines on paper. 3 x 10 ins.'), of which the first line is reproduced opposite p. 26. Johnston's fee of £2/12/6 was paid on 14 February 1908. | |
