| Description |
Colonel Dawson Kelly served in the early part of the Revolutionary War in the West Indies and in the Mediterranean. In 1809 he was appointed to the staff of the Duke of Wellington as Assistant Quarter Master General. He died at Gortmerron House, Dungannon, County Tyrone in 1837 and is buried at Mullavilly, County Armagh. The artist Edouard Pingret was a pupil of Jacques Louis David and Jean-Baptiste Regnault. He exhibited at the French Salon between 1810 and 1867 winning the second class medal in 1824 and 1831. He was awarded the Legion d'honneur in 1839. He was successful in gaining commissions from Louis Philippe and recorded the French monarch's visit to Queen Victoria at Windsor Castle in 1844. |
