Description This imaginary composition, or capriccio, is characteristic of Francesco Guardi's work and it exemplifies the tastes of his Venetian patrons in the second half of the eighteenth century. Small figures in contemporary dress are depicted against a picturesque background of dilapidated buildings. The loose and free brushwork and the light palette are characteristic of Guardi's production in the 1770s.
