Description The unknown sitter in this portrait is represented three-quarter-length with her left arm resting on the base of a pillar. She wears an elaborate red and white costume and a feathered hat that follow the female fashions of the reign of Louis XIV. The anonymous painter replicated the format and the style of portraiture established by the successful Pierre Mignard, whose works depart from the stiffness of the previous decades to show a more vivid likeness of the sitters.
