| Description |
The landscape painter Franco Zuccarelli influenced a generation of artists, both in his native Italy and in Britain, where he was a respected and regular exhibitor at the Royal Academy. This classical landscape with the Holy Family and a fourth figure, possibly John the Baptist, is typical of his style, which was influenced by the idealised landscapes of Claude, but is probably the work of a contemporary follower. |

| Notes |
This painting was acquired as Landscape with Castle, Waterfall and Three Figures. Although the subject is identified in museum records as 'Rest on the Flight into Egypt', this seems tenuous, given there are in fact four figures, including a young child seated between the man and the woman holding a baby, who does not appear in other versions of the subject by Zuccarelli and would appear to be the young John the Baptist. |
