| Description |
Dutch genre scenes tended to depict peasants as either rowdy and crude or as noble in their simplicity. This scene by Droochsloot falls into the latter category, with its well-behaved, rather stiff figures. The artist included the same church spire in the background of most of his villages scenes. |

The date on the picture is now difficult to read, but the handwritten list of pictures in the Bentlif collection at Draycott House (1892) gives it as 1661; Allchin (1909) says '166-'. |
