Description The artist has depicted three ships in peril, caught in a storm which threatens to dash them against the coast. The painter has employed a gap in his clouds to allow the scene illumination. Scenes such as this, featuring dramatic weather at sea, remained popular from the seventeenth century, with Dutch artists recognised as masters of the genre.
