Description This is a careful portrayal of animals, which reveals the influence of the Barbizon painters and their interest in the direct observation of nature. A donkey, a cow, a grazing bull and a chicken are depicted close to the foreground in an extensive landscape. This is the pendant to Cattle and Sheep by the same artist, which is also at Brodie Castle (73.101).
