| Description |
This imaginary landscape relates to the easy bucolic compositions by Francesco Zuccarelli. The elevated foreground on the right is occupied with a group of figures and animals relaxing on the grassy ground edging a small stream. A shepherd talks to a young woman, dogs play, a woman and a child lie on the ground in the shadow of a tree, and two cows rest nearby. On the left, a calm river bends towards a mill in the middle-ground. A townscape is suggested in the far distance. Zuccarelli's success stemmed chiefly from such Arcadian landscapes. |
