Description This impressive still life has been attributed to the painter Michele Pace, who specialised in images of flowers and fruits, often depicting them against a landscape or stormy sky. The artist was active in the mid-seventeenth century and is sometimes known as 'Campidoglio' on account of an official post he held in the Roman piazza of that name.

Notes Both Benedict Nicolson and Hermann Voss attributed this painting to Campidoglio; Michael Levey rejected that attribution, preferring a more generic attribution to the Roman school.
