| Description |
This is a fine three-quarter length portrait of a gentleman in early middle-age. He is depicted standing, with his left hand on in hip, and his right arm resting on ledge which is covered with a carpet. He sports a very long silver wig and is luxuriously attired in a coat of a pale gold colour, with a russet-coloured velvet drape. To the right of the composition, the background comprises a distant landscape. The work forms a pair with Portrait of an Unknown Woman (1945.27). |
