| Notes |
There is a stencil '5DS' inscribed on the reverse which may be a Christie's reference but this only produced a possible consignee with Christie's - Madame N. S. Kaplan, Paris on 3 May 1923. This work is similar in composition and style to the work of the seventeenth-century artist Jan Wyck. The entry in the accession book suggests the cannon and soldiers around it may have been added as a later introduction. It also records 'Dutch School', late 18th century, c. 1690'. |
