| Notes |
Lot 162/1?' is inscribed on the reverse. Lorne Campbell, National Gallery, London, suggests Quintin Jan Massys as the possible artist. Witt mounts show that Huys did paint a number of groups and single figures with their mouths shown open as in this example. The handling of the drapery is not identical but would be in line with a studio work. David Jaffe of the National Gallery, London preferred the artist Adriaen Brouwer but the characterisation of the faces is very different. |
