Taweret, Hippopotamus-Goddess, Protectress Of Women In Childbirth |
| Description |
Amulet of the goddess Taweret standing on a rectangular base with her arms at her sides and left foot advanced. Taweret is depicted as a female hippopotamus with the tail of a crocodile, the arms and legs of a lion and the breasts of a woman. The amulet is damaged on the right arm and head. There is evidence to suggest that there was originally a crown attached on top of the head. There are traces of a blue-green glaze on the nemes headdress. |
